I’m investing in couple of film projects this year – Davido hints at Nollywood move (Video)

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has sparked massive buzz online after hinting at a possible venture into Nollywood by investing in several film projects this year.

The award-winning singer, who is widely celebrated for his chart-topping music and electrifying performances, gave fans a taste of what could be a new career direction during a recent interview with content creator Darryl, which surfaced online on Saturday.

According to Davido, if music hadn’t worked out, he would have still ended up in entertainment, just behind the scenes.

“I studied business marketing, so I would have still been in the entertainment space if I wasn’t singing,” he said.

Davido confirmed that plans are already in motion. He said, he is currently working with his longtime video director Dammy Twitch on developing new projects, including films and series.

“I am investing in a couple of films this year. Shoutout to my director, Dammy Twitch. We have some ideas, series coming,” he said.

He also added that the film industry in Africa has potential but is “going bankruptcy,” and he sees an opportunity to make an impact.

Aside from producing, Davido says he wouldn’t mind acting too.

He explained that he has already shown his acting skills in some of his own music videos like “Jowo” and “Nwa Baby.”

“I can also act. I can act for real,” he said confidently.

Meanwhile, on Friday, April 19, the Afrobeats star dropped his fifth studio album, 5ive.

The 17-track album features a mix of local and international stars, including Chris Brown, Omah Lay, Victony, Becky G, Shensea, and Victoria Monét.

Tracks like “Funds” featuring Odumodublvck and Chike, and “Awuke” with YG Marley, were earlier released ahead of the full project.

Davido’s last album, Timeless, made history by topping Billboard’s World Albums Chart in 2023.
