Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has finally spoken out about being overlooked at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The star-studded event took place on May 10, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, drawing a host of celebrities.
In a recent interview, Chatta—an acclaimed actor who has repeatedly been snubbed by the award organisers—opened up about his thoughts on the continued exclusion.
The movie star, who also owns a film village, appeared as a guest on skit maker Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, popularly known as Isbae U’s podcast, Curiosity Made Me Ask.
During the conversation, Isbae U questioned why the AMVCA organisers had consistently overlooked him.
In response, Ibrahim Chatta admitted he often asks himself the same thing. However, he clarified that he’s not overly concerned with awards. According to him, if he truly cared, he would have submitted one of his films for consideration.
Chatta then turned the question back to his host, asking if he had any idea how many awards he had already won. He suggested that his lack of social presence might lead organisers to assume he wouldn’t show up at such events.
Sharing a few of his recognitions, the actor revealed he had received an award from an international organisation, one from Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka, and another from fellow actor Odunlade Adekola, who honoured individuals he believed were truly deserving.
He said; “I am not interested, why will I be praying for what I am not interested in?. Whenever I am interested, I will submit a film and give it to them to see.”
“I have thought about it, why don’t they invite me because I see younger people attending and winning. Do you know how many awards are in my house?”
