UK-based Nigerian rapper and singer Oluwafisayo Isa, popularly known as Darkoo has recently caused a buzz on social media X, formerly Twitter, after she called out singer Peter Okoye, aka Mr P, of Psquare, accusing him of sabotage.
Darkoo, in a series of tweets, accused Peter Okoye of playing a role in taking down the music video for “Focus on Me”, released on 2nd of January 2025 from the popular video-sharing platform, YouTube.
She revealed that the music video for “Focus on Me” was removed from YouTube for six days over a copyright infringement issue. Darkoo, firmly standing her ground, recounted how she reached out to Psquare to seek permission to release the song.
The rapper’s “Focus on Me” was sampled from P-Square’s 2009 hit song “Gimme Dat,” which she claimed had undergone all necessary clearance before release.
She revealed that Peter took down the video because he requested to be featured on the song, a request she initially declined but later considered for a potential remix. However, he remained unsatisfied and subsequently removed her music video from YouTube, accusing her of “disrespecting him.
She wrote, “I WASN’T GOING TO SAY ANYTHING, BUT MY MUSIC VIDEO WAS TAKEN DOWN FOR 6 DAYS BY PETER OF P-SQUARE IN AN ATTEMPT TO COMPLETELY SABOTAGE THE SONG. (FORTUNATELY THE VIDEO IS BACK UP NOW.) LET ME BE CLEAR: I HAD ALL THE NECESSARY CLEARANCE FOR THE SAMPLE. THIS IS NOT MY FIRST RODEO USING A SAMPLE, AS YOU KNOW, AND I DID EVERYTHING BY THE BOOK.”
“TO PUT THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE, THEY ARE RECEIVING 50%… RIGHTFULLY SO.
YET, MR. PETER WANTED TO BE FEATURED ON THE SONG, EVEN CREATED HIS OWN NEW VERSE FOR IT. HE TOLD ME NOT TO SPEAK TO OR CLEAR WITH HIS BROTHERS JUDE & PAUL (WHO, BY THE WAY, HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY HELPFUL IN RESOLVING ISSUES). HE CLAIMED THEY WOULD BRING ‘UNNECESSARY PROBLEMS’ FOR ME.”
