Renowned Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has taken to her social media page to jubilate over the success of her blockbuster movie, ‘Everybody loves Jenifa’.
‘Everybody loves Jenifa’, aired in cinema on Friday, December 13th, set a new record in box office as it earned N206 million on its first opening weekend.
This comes after Nigerian Box Office, NBO, revealed via X handle that the movie raked in an astounding N45 million on its opening day.
The movie tell a story of Jenifa whose reputation faces a challenge as a dubious new neighbor, Lobster, overshadows her charitable efforts. The stakes rise dramatically when Jenifa and her friends inadvertently receive a bag of drugs in their rental, leading to a dangerous showdown with a drug lord in Ghana.
The cinematic film is co-written by Akindele, Akinlabi Ishola, and Collins Okoh. Everybody Loves Jenifa is co-directed by Akindele and Tunde Olaoye. The film blends comedy with life lessons, resonating with audiences both in Nigeria and abroad. The star-studded cast includes Akindele herself, alongside renowned actors like Patience Ozokwor, Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, Omowunmi Dada, Jackie Appiah, and Falz.
Taking to her Instagram, Everybody Loves Jenifa became the highest-grossing single day in Nollywood history, with N87.8 million earned in one day. The film also recorded the strongest opening weekend of 2024, selling 38,353 tickets. This makes ELJ not only the biggest opening weekend in Nollywood this year but also the highest-grossing opening weekend in the industry’s history.
Visibly overwhelmed with joy, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude to God and Nigerians. She wrote, “Thank you Lord!!! Thank you Nigeria!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺.”

Popular comedian Kamo State, who also appeared in Everybody Loves Jenifa, shared his excitement on Instagram, posting a video of himself proudly celebrating the movie’s success. He also showered praises on Funke Akindele for producing such intelligent film.
He wrote, “I’m super proud Lafunky & everyone involve in this project… We going 5 billions please, @funkejenifaakindele you worth this and more,worked so hard and spent too much…”
