Veteran Nollywood actress Dupe Jaiyesimi in a recent interview disclosed that she had no child to celebrate her 60th birthday as she shares her journey through infertility and childlessness.
In an emotional interview on Biola Adebayo’s podcast, Jaiyesimi expressed her deep sadness over not having children to celebrate her 60th birthday with.
She recalled a heartbreaking moment when she was once pregnant but sadly lost the baby. Medical tests later revealed that the pregnancy was ectopic, meaning the baby was growing outside her womb.
“I was once pregnant, but the scan showed that the baby was growing outside of the womb,” she revealed. “After a few weeks, I lost the pregnancy.”
The pain of losing her baby was worsened by a devastating betrayal in her marriage.
She revealed that shortly after her miscarriage, her husband brought another woman into their home—already pregnant with his child.
Unable to bear the heartbreak, she made the difficult decision to walk away from the marriage.
“After I lost the pregnancy, my husband brought another woman home, and she was already expecting his baby,” she recounted. “I had no choice but to walk away, and since then, I have remained single.”
Despite her deep longing for motherhood, Jaiyesimi revealed her struggles with infertility.
She underwent two rounds of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in hopes of conceiving, but both attempts ended in disappointment.
The veteran actress also shared that she had once considered adopting a child but was discouraged by her late mother. “I attempted IVF twice, but it failed,” she said.
“At a point, I thought of adopting, but my mother warned me not to bring any child I didn’t conceive into my life.”
Reflecting on her choice to remain single, Jaiyesimi revealed that many of the men she met were not seeking true companionship but merely sought to exploit her.
Disillusioned by relationships, she ultimately decided to embrace solitude.
“Most men just wanted to have a piece of me, so I decided to stay single,” she said.
The actress, once a familiar face in Yoruba cinema, revealed that she has been absent from the industry for over seven years.
During this time, she neither acted in films nor produced any projects of her own.
“The only thing I know how to do best is acting, but I have not been in movies for over seven years,” she lamented. “I haven’t produced any either.”
Despite the setbacks, Jaiyesimi remains hopeful, believing that as long as she is alive, the possibility of becoming a mother still exists.
Her unwavering faith in the future keeps her going. “As long as there is life, there is hope,” she declared. “I still believe I can have my own child.”
Her story has resonated deeply, especially with women facing similar struggles.
Fans and colleagues have flooded social media with support, applauding her resilience and courage in sharing her journey.
While some praised her for prioritizing self-respect over a toxic marriage, others encouraged her to keep hope alive for motherhood.
