Nigerian actress and film producer Abimbola Craig has shared her reasons for being unmarried at 38.
In a conversation with media figure Chude Jideonwo, she expressed her view that “marriage is a scam.”
Craig criticized traditional gender roles in marriage, noting that women often take on the responsibilities of managing the home and caring for their partners. She humorously described the title “Mrs” as a way of saying “Master’s in Residential Servicing.”
Abimbola Craig explained that she chooses to stay single not because she is against marriage, but because she wants a partner who knows themselves and has a clear purpose. Abimbola Craig said:
All marriage is a scam. When I was small, my mum always told me marriage is an institution. She said when they call you ‘Mrs,’ it stands for ‘Master’s in Residential Servicing’.”
“I am not married, not because I do not want to be married, but if you are a man who does not know who he is, you cannot be with me.”
Craig gained fame for her character Tiwalade in the popular web series ‘Skinny Girl in Transit’. She also made a name for herself as a producer, working with Jade Osiberu on the successful 2019 film ‘Sugar Rush’.
Earlier this year, she shared her story of a near-death experience after undergoing brain surgery in 2014.
Abimbola Craig talked about facing serious complications like nausea, insomnia, and weight loss, which made her afraid for her life.
