Mkhitaryan eyeing retirement with ‘top club like Inter’

Henrikh Mkhitaryan sat down for an interview with ‘Sky Sport’ to chat about his retirement plans as he nears his 40s. The Armenian midfielder admitted he would like to bid farewell to football in a “top club like Inter”.

With the late 30s now approaching, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has opened up on his retirement plans. The 36-year-old midfielder continues to play at the highest levels despite having celebrated his 36th birthday not long ago – and his idea is to continue doing so right until the end.

My idea is to finish my career in a top club like Inter,” the Armenia international told ‘Sky Sports’. That said, Mkhitaryan admitted that anything can happen from now until the end of the season as he warned that a definitive decision still needs to be discussed with the Italian side.

“At the end of this season, we will see if I will stay here for another year or leave. We haven’t decided yet,” said the ex-Manchester United and Arsenal player. “At the moment I am happy here, I would like to continue, and then we will see what happens.”

Mkhitaryan is under contract with the ‘Nerazzurri’ until June 2026, but admitted that he could hang up his boots earlier should his body not be able to take it. “It also depends on my body and if I’m able to keep up with the level I’m showing right now. We will see when we get there,” he concluded.
