Barcelona midfielder Pedri Gonzalez spoke to the press in the mixed zone after their defeat against Inter Milan in the second leg of the Champions League semifinals. He called for a UEFA investigation into the referee, Szymon Marciniak.
Pedro Gonzalez ‘Pedri’ criticised the performance of referee Szymon Marciniak in Barcelona’s 4-3 defeat against Inter Milan, after which the Catalan team has been knocked out of the Champions League final, and called for an investigation by UEFA with a view to the future.
“I totally agree with what our coach said at the press conference. It’s not the first time it’s happened to us with this referee. UEFA should look into it. There are things I don’t understand,” he lamented.
The Spanish midfielder gave as an example the play in which Mkhitaryan almost gave away a penalty to Barcelona when he fouled Lamine on the edge of the box. “In the possible penalty on Lamine, which was later called a foul, he did not show Mkhitaryan a yellow card, which would have been the second,” he added.
Pedri admitted that the team was “a little disappointed”, but stressed that they “gave everything” and would have deserved to qualify for the final in Munich. “Now, we’re f*cked and we have to think about the ‘Clasico’ and go for it all,” he said.
